An Independent Educational Consultant, or IEC, is a professional with a wealth of knowledge in the field of College Advising. The function of the IEC is to provide individualized attention to students and their families throughout the process, from choosing High School coursework and focus of activities to making sense out of the mountains of college information available on the internet, through college fairs, books, catalogs, etc. The main priority of an IEC is to assess each student as the unique individual that they are.
The fact is, School Counselors are stretched thin. With counselor caseloads well into the hundreds, it has become increasingly difficult for the School Counselor to provide the time that is required to compete in today’s complicated world of college admissions. Not only are High School coursework choices important, but it is imperative that we take individual students’ unique needs into account. From researching purposeful summer programs to creating a cohesive student resume, the goal of MCC is not to replace the School Counselor, but to support their efforts by providing customized focus, care and devotion to each student.
