Asking a High Schooler what they want in a college is an interesting premise. Without a frame of reference, there is no feasible way to predict how he or she would feel about being a part of a campus of 20,000 vs. one of 5,000. Parents cannot, (and should never!), assume that their children should fit into a school just to fulfill a parental dream. Much college disappointment begins this way.
Many students choosing colleges talk about “feel”. The only way to understand a feel of a place is to research, starting with an excellent academic fit based on GPA, SAT, etc. and career interests, where extracurricular needs are met, demographics, and then on to virtual and in-person campus tours. Does the student envision a small college town or a big city campus? Want to keep it local or hop on a plane to school? Specific demographics will be discussed, and lists will be generated based on definitive school types. “Great fit” will be emphasized above all else. We suggest a list of 10-15 choices, with equal parts Likely, Target, and Reach choices.
Once acceptances and packages are received, we will create a unique chart to assist in making the decision that best fits each student both personally and financially.
